Dr. Natalie Manning (née Conte) is a pediatrician at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center, who is doing a fellowship in emergency medicine.

Natalie was born in Seattle. She grew up and married Jeff Manning, who was killed in action while she was pregnant with their son, Owen, whom she later gave birth to.

Season One

She is treating a 14-year-old girl who gave birth and abandoned her baby in an alley two blocks from the hospital. The baby suffered some complications thus needed oxygen to live. However, the hospital ran out and while she had the last one, Halstead came in and took it, claiming that his patient deserved it more, as he was a father of three and a husband, than a baby who had a lower chance of survival. He told her that her motherly-instincts were getting in the way of her decision-making and snatched the tank from her and left. This upset her and she didn't talk to him for a week despite his constantly apologies. At the end of the episode the group, including her mother-in-law Helen Manning, throw her a (what was supposed to be secret) baby shower at Molly's.

Will asks for her help with a patient, a violinist. She is diagnosed with small tumors that are causing hearing loss and loss of balance. After the exams Will tells her she is in the intense need of surgery. The patient says she won't make any decisions until she talks to Manning. Natalie calms her down by telling her that even if she loses hearing she will always be able to play due to body memory. The patient then decides to go through with the surgery, and, even though she survives, she lost hearing. Later on, Manning finally forgives Will.

Will tells Natalie that since he only leaves about a mile away from her, she should call him when her water breaks so he can help and take her to the Hospital.

  • Being a doctor was her fallback plan, she was planning on becoming a violinist. She plays the violin on 1x03.
